My name is Hannah Harkness, Miss Orem 2011. Each year on America’s roads more than 30,000 lives are lost due to traffic accidents. Many of these are caused by distracted driving.
We can do better than this.
This past Christmas Eve my friend’s car was hit head-on by a distracted driver trying to make a cell phone call. She, along with her husband and two small children were life-flighted to area hospitals. Her 18-month old baby died in her arms on Christmas day.
It is totally within our control to eliminate distracted driving when we are ready behind the wheel each time we turn on the ignition of our cars. I have teamed up with the Orem Department of Public Safety, Traffic Division to get the word out that no call or text is worth a life.
Something simple each one of us can do today is to make our car’s a NO PHONE ZONE. Take the pledge now at “readybehindthewheel.com” to make your car a NO PHONE ZONE and receive a free NO PHONE ZONE car sticker.
Remember, no text or call is worth a life.
Thanks,
Hannah Harkness
